Blizzcon Rumor Mill Roundup – Overwatch 2

The run-up to Blizzcon is in full swing and just like any Blizzcon, the leaks are coming in thick and fast. If you missed our Diablo IV leak, you can check that out here, or by clicking the previous post at the bottom of the page.

Next up, we have some information about Overwatch 2, or Overwatch Chapter 2, whichever you think it may be.

As the internet is great at investigating game announcements before they’re officially announced, images surfaced over the weekend of the 26th October that Overwatch 2 will be announced at Blizzcon 2019, and will look to add the following to the game:

  • PvE Game Mode – Introducing hero talents and a 4 person story set in Rio de Janeiro
  • Hero 32 (Rumors suggest Echo)
  • New game mode known as “Push”
  • New map based in Toronto, Canada

The news was broken by ESPN after they received a demo guide ahead of Blizzcon, that detailed Overwatch 2. They expect that Overwatch 2 will be playable at Blizzcon for attendees.

Potential Overwatch 2 Art

A lot of the information doesn’t point to anything concrete, however, people are assuming that instead of an Overwatch 2, Blizzard will instead release Overwatch Chapter 2. This will effectively be a large content patch for Overwatch which will introduce the above elements to the game.

Overwatch Chapter 2

Of course, as we can’t have nice things, an early leak on the Blizzard Gear store has all but confirmed that Overwatch 2 will be at Blizzcon, as new images leaked showing Reinhardt, Tracer, Mercy, Mei, Brigitte, Genji and Winston. As this image was accidentally leaked from a Blizzard controlled store at:

Regardless of what happens, Overwatch has been hurting for a narrative-based PvE mode, after some of the previous story events were incredibly popular. The one thing that I’m interested to hear more information on is the new talent system that will be coming to the PvE game mode.
