Diablo 4 Leaks: A Throwback for Diablo 2 Fans

The latest in a line of leaks for the supposed release of Diablo 4 was kicked up a notch today as a Reddit user by the name of /u/PracticalBrush spilled the beans on the latest juicy tidbits of information to come out before Blizzcon.

In his thread, he covers a few things in relation to Diablo 4, including the art style of the game, 3 classes that will appear in the game, as well as PvP game modes from the start, and of course. Co-op play.

Diablo 4: Back to its roots

According to the thread, Diablo 4 is going to be a strong wink to the fans of Diablo 2 (this could still be a remastered Diablo 2, but who knows!) with a gritty, grotesque and dark art style being chosen for the new game. PracticalBrush invokes an all too familiar scene with the playable classes of Diablo 4 being sat around a campfire. Famously, this is how players chose their class in Diablo 2.

As well as this, some zone types and aesthetics will include fields littered with corpses, grey desert areas, plagued cities, you name it. If it’s gritty and it’s dark, it’s more than likely going to be in Diablo 4.

What Classes have been Leaked for Diablo 4?

So far, 3 classes for Diablo 4 have been leaked, with them being the classic Mage (noted for using fire, ice and lightning spells and attacks/) the even more classic Barbarian (who uses swords, maces, clubs, kicks and all other manner of sharp hurty things) and the Druid (who is noted to use lightning and wind attacks and spells, as well as being able to transform into beasts. A Bear and werewolf so far. Many players of Diablo 2 will more than likely recognise these.

The return of the Druid class will be a favourite amongst fans, as a lot were looking forward to seeing the Druid re imagined for Diablo 3, and it was rumoured to be in development after the Necromancer character pack.

Leaked Features and Gameplay in Diablo 4

As well as the above, PracticalBrush also leaked that PvP will potentially be available from the get-go, again, another feature that fans desperately wanted to see in Diablo 3. As well as this, some new features such as being able to ride mounts across the maps, the ability to scale walls “Lost Ark style” as well as more expansive maps, contextual interactions with the environment and er…bloodier…blood?

Some of these new features sound exciting, and we have seen clips of a similar wall scaling bit from the Diablo: Immortal gameplay, so perhaps a bit of crossover there in terms of mechanics.

Story of Diablo 4

Information on the story is a little harder to come by from the post, but what we have been told is a little more information on the inclusion of Lilith, where she is said to be “the next Diablo”.

We last saw Lilith in Diablo 2, for a special Pandemonium Event hosted for Lords of Destruction, Diablo 2’s expansion pack. No matter what happens in regards to Lilith the story sounds like it may be going back to it’s more primal roots, and this grittier interpretation of the world we move the game away from the more colourful and campier style of Diablo 3.

If you want to know more about the story, be sure to tune into Blizzcon where I am sure we will find out a lot more.

Can We Trust the Leaked Info?

After all is said and done, this could in fact not be true. As always with all leaks, you have to take them with a pinch of salt and set your own expectations. There are a few gameplay elements in that thread that are new to the franchise such as riding mounts and scaling walls (although this has been seen in Diablo: Immortal footage). This doesn’t mean they can’t be done, but it is new to the series.

To further these claims PracticalBrush’s post history seems pretty robust with some major leaks for other games including Pokémon Sword and Shield, and the recently released Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, so this may just hold some water after all.

Raiders of the lost ark? What kind of game reporter confuses lost ark (mmo arpg) with raiders of the lost ark?

Yep, my bad there. Must have been distracted in the moment. It has been corrected in the article.
